South Dakota Education Equity Coalition

The South Dakota Education Equity Coalition was founded in 2019. It is led by Indigenous community members and advocates who are dedicated to amplifying the educational needs of Indigenous students. The coalition has won the unanimous support of all nine tribes in the state.

Our three-part strategy for addressing education disparities and promoting Indigenous self-determination includes: 1. Organize and educate students, parents, teachers, and community members in three distinct regions of the state, 2. Train coalition partners and advocates on core skills such as power mapping, understanding and interpreting public opinion polling, using poll-tested messaging, deploying earned media, and building relationships with elected officials, and 3. Promote ideas and practices that will give schools rooted in Indigenous culture a chance to thrive.

We provide USDA food to 14 tribes in W. WA. This food is delivered to each location and distributed. Our client count is approximately 1,500 clients/ 300 families. We also package and ship food through the port of Seattle to 8 southeast villages in Alaska and three on the Aleutian Islands.

StrongHearts Native Helpline

StrongHearts’ exist to restore power to Native Americans impacted by domestic and sexual violence by weaving together a braid of safety, sovereignty and support. Today, StrongHearts is a lifeline to Native American and Alaska Natives impacted by domestic and sexual violence by offering a culturally-appropriate, anonymous and confidential service available 24/7 nationwide.

Tewa Women United’s programs braid environmental, reproductive, and gender justice.

The 100 Horses Women’s Society encourages girls and young women to support each other by empowering them with their ancestral and cultural knowledge of womanhood and the necessary life skills to enrich their lives and the lives of future generations to come. Tiwahe Foundation

Tiwahe creates pathways for American Indian people to reach their own goals, on their own terms, in this critical moment for defining how Native cultures, languages, and ways of being will live and grow in the coming generations.

We do this through our flagship micro-granting program (AIFEP), and through our Oyate Leadership Network (OLN), a network weaving and leadership development program that centers the cultural needs of our Indigenous leaders in Minnesota.

OLN is a source of community healing through culture and language, recognizing that reciprocal, mutualistic relationships and traditional ways of knowing are critical tools for rebuilding pathways of community care.
